Walnut Hills Elementary School issued the following announcement.
The Boys Swim team used a balance attack scoring points in every event to bring home a third-place trophy from the 2020 Iowa State Swim Championships held Saturday in Iowa City. Warrior’s total of 231 points was bettered by only Ankeny and State Champion Iowa City West.
On a day that six Waukee High School (WHS) records were set, the Warriors had one state championship finish, two runner-up finishes, and four 3rd place finishes. Sophomore Drew Reiter won the 100 Butterfly and also place second in the 200 Individual Medley. Both performances set new school records. He also swam on two record-setting relays. Senior Cameron Linder set a school record in the 500 Freestyle racing to a runner up finish and also placed third in the 200 IM. Freshman AJ Abram had a hand in three school-record performances, placing third in the 100 Freestyle and swimming legs on the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays.
WHS’s third-place team finish continued an impressive string of team performances for the boys’ program. The boys have now placed first, first, fourth, second and third at the last five state meets. Individually six WHS athletes earned All American and/or All-State recognition for their performances.
